  • a new place

    well, it took three ships and a wagon to get me beyond the edge of any of father's maps. so many strange sights, sounds, smells--! I don't know the name of this place yet, but the people seem friendly enough. I'm keeping my bag close, just in case--though it's not like I have much to steal. I spent the last of my coin on books. this journal, of course--but before this I bought a different one, thinking it would be enough to serve the purpose. the pages were blank enough when I was at the stall! the seller fellow only shrugged when I said it was odd that a journal would have gold embossing on its cover. I don't think he understood me. but when I left the stall and sat down to write, I found the pages covered in letters that I can't read, with odd pictures I can't interpret. was it a trick? the stall was gone when I returned, and it's not like I could throw it away... anyway, I found a different book to write in. it'll do.
